Update: FlightFactor to improve visuals and sounds

Despite no official post, listing, or, RoadMap describing features that would come in each update, developers of the FFA320 have been hopping about in the support forum to answer users’ questions about the state of the FFA320. Many users have expressed concerns, with some speculating that the development team has already abandoned the recently released product. What a time to be alive!

From the snippets of responses from the team in the support forum, we’ve gathered that the some major features that are being worked on or improved are:

  • New Sounds
  • New Visuals: Textures & Refined 3D Modelling
  • New Lat Revision page (Not the full Rev 2 MCDU…yet, but implemented as a popular feature)
  • New WXR radar.

Improved Textures, WX Radar & Engine sounds:

Answering a user’s thread on the support forums, FlightFactor developer on X-Plane.org forums “mhoppi” provided a quick update on the coming updates and progress on the A320. Amidst a small shuffle in developer staff within the team (hiring more developers and upgrading the team), there will be further refinements and improvements for the engine sounds.

Systems like the weather radar are almost completed but the team is waiting for datarefs that contain enough detail to simulate it properly. At the moment, the developer is currently upgrading some pages and adding new features to MCDU which will be finalised and implemented by “assert” when they have time.

A new texture “Sharp2D”.jpg will be included so that the Popup MCDU will get newer, sharper 2D textures. The MCDU still has the old textures. Some additional detailing such as baked reflections is going to be applied to the flightdeck, along with several other fixes.

New refreshed 3D Modelling:

Assert posted a reply before the thread was closed, stating that the team is working on a major update on the visual model, addressing several major modelling flaws, the faults interface in the EFB, all whilst optimising the development process, expanding the development team, and solving some licensing issues. Should everything go smoothly and as planned, the next milestone would be a Weather Radar and more accurate EGPWS.

Overall, the development team seems very receptive to feedback and is working hard. We are looking forward to what else they have in store!
