Debut: ‘VSkyLabs Base-1’

VSkyLabs has been hard at work lately, and it looks like they have an interesting new scenery on the way! It’s a fictional location that looks perfect for bush flying operations!

The text from the first release is here, along with the image:

”VSKYLABS Base-1′ – Scenery built for remote/snow DC-3 operations (suitable for all bush-planes and helicopters) – first impression.

It is not of a huge-real-world-airport type of scenery development. This scenery is tailored around the VSKYLABS DC-3/C-47 Flying Lab Project, and it is perfect for all bush-plane operations.

This particular location is not populated in the real world, however it is being built with all of the needed considerations of ground, air and airspace operations. It is located about 40 miles east of Anchorage, Alaska, on the surface of one of the huge glaciers. The location is easily accessible from real-world airstrips which are located near by (15-20 minutes flight).

Here is a first preview of one of the elements within the ‘VSKYLABS Base-1’ compound (it is a huge compound…). It is a Solar power station…the solar panels are arranged so they capture and direct the sunlight to the central tower, as the sun travels over the horizon (it is not a full circle in this particular station, since the sun never crosses the horizon up in the north). This is amazingly visible via the PBR engine of X-Plane (from the right view angles, the sun is seen “travels” on the plates as time goes by.

This power station, and the other facilities on-site, will require maintenance…so there is a reason to visit the place, loaded with cargo or personnel

During winter the station is non operational, of course. But the meteorological research station *IS* 😉

No release update yet, but as all of the VSKYLABS projects, it is a “project” which will continue its development path after the release of the initial version.’
