Debut: VSkyLabs Rutan Long-EZ

In a weird way, VSkyLabs remind me a lot of myself, in that sometimes I look really, really weird, but secretly (I think) I know what I’m doing! I’m talking about this, of course:

“Finally. Oh finally…The VSKYLABS Rutan LongEZ Project (!!) release window (??) is nearly opened (!!??). I recommend to google ‘Rutan Long EZ POH’, download the flight manual and start learning. WOW THIS IS GOING TO BE SO CRAZY.”

When someone isn’t afraid of inserting random punctuation inside of parentheses in places where it doesn’t make sense, I know that I have something to look forward to. Surely enough, this (much more formal) announcement is worth getting excited about:

“Ok…here is the official announcement: It seems that the ***VSKYLABS Rutan LongEZ Project***, which is one of the major projects in the VSKYLABS 2018 road map, will be released by the end of April 2018.

The Rutan LongEZ fascinating aircraft was designed by the aerospace legend Burt Rutan. The project is featuring a superb flight dynamics model, authentic aircraft performance and handling characteristics, highly detailed 3D modeling and fully operational, high quality virtual cockpit + other exciting features in the tradition of the ‘VSKYLABS’ projects.

Current development status: final VR operations tunings and preparation of the whole package, with the focus on the detailed, illustrated and thorough Pilot Operating Handbook.

Within a few days, a project page will be set at the VSKYLABS portal, along with detailed screenshots, videos etc…

To put some light on the upcoming planned VSKYLABS releases:

The VSKYLABS Solar Impulse 2 Project release window is aimed for May 2018.

The VSKYLABS Flight design CTLS/CTSW Project release will follow the Si2 Project.

Updates for the existing projects are proceeding as planned (I will dedicate a separate post for this).”

Since the cover photo is the only photo of the VSkyLabs Rutan Long-EZ, here’s a photo of a real one.

This aircraft was offered to homebuilders for the first time in 1976, and flew for the first time in 1979. Designed by aerospace engineer Burt Rutan, this aircraft has quite an interesting history, and you can read about some of it here. Altogether, we should probably take VSkyLabs’ advice and download the POH; this is going to be a fun one!
