MB Simulations Releases Thun Airfield for Microsoft Flight Simulator

Newcomer Swiss developers MB Simulations have just released their first scenery add-on, a freeware rendition of Thun Airfield (LSZW) for Microsoft Flight Simulator.

Located in the Bernese Oberland in central Switzerland, Thun Airfield was first opened as a military airport in 1910. Officially named “Militarflugplatz Thun”, the airport was used during both world wars by the Swiss Air Force. In 1955, all military activity was transferred to Emmen Airbase and the airfield was now used for civilian operations.

Equipped with an 800 meters long grass runway and a sail-plane runway, the airport is popular among general aviation pilots thanks to the beautiful surrounding mountains.

Started in late November 2020 by Marco Bahler and Pascal Kuptz, Thun Airfield marks the developer’s first scenery for a flight simulator. The developer has expressed plans for future payware sceneries, however, the location of the airport remains unknown.

The add-on includes custom Ortho scenery, fully custom terminal and apron and much more. Here is the feature list:

– Every Custom Object is fully uses PBR (except some decals)

– Self-made objects with high-resolution textures

– High-res colour corrected orthoimage (10cm/pixel)

– Custom ground texture based on orthoimage

– Stockhorn Arena (Stadium of Football Club Thun)

– Custom made and exactly positioned runway and taxiway markings
