Trailer: VSkyLabs Details Progress on Solar Impulse 2

VSkyLabs Aerospace Simulations has released a new video detailing progress on their Solar Impulse 2.

Here’s the news from their Facebook post.

The VSKYLABS Solar Impulse 2 Project NEWS FLASH!

One of the highlights of this project is to design the complex Flight Dynamics Model to maximum realism. The FDM is under thorough evaluation. One of the challenges is the effect of the wing on flight heading maintenance, both for the human pilot and the autopilot.

External modeling is almost completed, and it will soon be the time for fixing the high quality 4K textures and semi-transparent surfaces all over the plane (where needed).

Landing gears modeling, engineering and animations are almost completed as well. Extracted position was the (easy) staring point of the development process…but understanding the internal mechanism and engineering, moving axes and locking mechanisms was quite complex…and successfully completed. So many photographs and videos were reviewed during this specific development effort, which lasted so many hours (in separate time periods)…

Most of the development efforts these days are on cockpit development, which is full of elements. Modeling seems endless. Special care is directed to the front panel, which is designed with a few changes compared to the real Si2, mainly because the specific avionics of the real aircraft was replaces by custom engines, and power visualization solutions. Flight information and navigation is based on the G1000, while the ‘OMEGA Instrument’, which helps the pilots maintain the stability of the plane on approach and landing using a very sensitive led-based indication, is currently under development. This specific instrument is very fascinating, and will have ***much of attention*** when flying this aircraft in a full VR environment.

Here is a (very) short video, showing some **UNDER DEVELOPMENT* materials in a short edit (I had to take a break….) introducing the VSKYLABS Solar Impulse 2 Project, as it is nowadays.
